C-I uses 26-1 run to defeat Panthers

After the first 14 minutes of last Friday night's Mid-State Conference girls basketball game, Park Rapids held a 17-16 lead over undefeated Crosby-Ironton.


Over the next 11 minutes, Crosby-Ironton went on a 26-1 run to spark a 59-30 victory at the Area High School gym.

The Rangers jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Park Rapids rallied.

A jumper by Hailey Lundin, a layup off a steal by Hannah Wolff, a jumper by Carson Lee Christenson, three free throws by Olivia Vaadeland, and a 3-pointer by Wolff tied the game at 12-12 with 7:15 to play in the first half.

A jumper by Alyssa Carlson and a 3-pointer by Wolff gave the Panthers a 17-16 lead with 3:53 remaining in the opening half.

Two 3-pointers by Katie Swanhorst helped C-I close the half with an 8-0 run to carry a 24-17 lead into the intermission.

Another 3-pointer by Swanhorst pushed the lead to 27-17 before Wolff hit a free throw with 17:13 to play.

The Panthers went scoreless for almost eight minutes as C-I built a 42-18 advantage. Missy Foote scored three baskets inside and Jana Anderson hit a 3-pointer to spark the Rangers' 15-0 run.

Carlson's two free throws at the 10:44 mark and 3-pointer with 9:27 to play made it 42-23. Wolff followed with a jumper as the Panthers trailed 43-23 with 9:25 to go.

A free throw by Wolff with 3:29 left, a three-point play by Lydia Lutz at the 2:51 mark and a free throw by Christenson with 2:16 remaining concluded the scoring as the Panthers fell to 0-3 in the conference and 1-5 overall.

Wolff (12) and Carlson (7) combined for 19 points to lead the Panthers.

Foote (14), Swanhorst (12) and Anderson (11) hit double figures for the Rangers, who improved to 4-0 overall.
