Brand's four goals spark Panthers' 10-1 win

McKenna Brand scored four goals as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team had its best scoring night of the season in a 10-1 win over Pequot Lakes Monday night at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Brand opened the game with a hat trick by scoring at the 15:23 mark and 1:35 mark of the first period and the 15:33 mark of the second period. Danika Aletto had an assist on Brand's second goal.

The Panthers dominated the second period by scoring five times and holding a 30-4 edge in shots on goal. Ashley Thelen scored twice before goals by Leeza Tostenson and Allie Bade gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead. Aletto and Tostenson set up Thelen's goal at the 8:07 mark and Tostenson assisted on Thelen's goal with 6:10 to play. Bade assisted on Tostenson's goal at the 6:10 mark and Brand set up Bade's goal at the 4:47 mark.

Goals by Aletto, Tostenson and Brand in the third period sealed the win. Tostenson assisted on Aletto's goal with 12:18 to play while Thelen had an assist on Tostenson's goal with 9:53 left. Brittany Floyd assisted on Brand's fourth goal of the game with 7:54 left.

Gapinski stopped nine of the 10 shots she faced as the Panthers finished with a 51-10 advantage in shots on goal.

The win was the Panthers' third against Pequot Lakes this season and lifted Park Rapids' overall record to 9-12-2. Park Rapids defeated Pequot Lakes 4-1 and 9-1 earlier this season. Pequot Lakes fell to 3-17 on the season.

LOW shuts out Panthers

Bryna Hanson made 20 saves in leading Lake of the Woods to a 3-0 win over the Panthers Thursday night.

Kayla Thompson and Shelby Nosan scored in the second period and Jamie Mollberg scored in the third period to lead the Bears, who improved to 1-9 against Section 8A teams and 4-16-1 overall.

Gapinski finished with 22 saves for the Panthers, who fell to 1-5 against section opponents. The Panthers, who defeated LOW 6-1 earlier in the season, were shut out for only the third time this season.
