Ahoy, matey! The ships are about to set sail on area lakes in celebration of Independence Day. Sailors are invited to weigh anchors and join the revelry.

Long Lake

The Long Lake flotilla and dock decorating in celebration of the Fourth of July will take place today (Saturday).

Docks and boats are to be decorated by 9:30 a.m. and remain decorated until 1 p.m.

The flotilla will leave at 10 a.m. from Wooters Point on the east side of Long Lake; gathering begins at 9:50 a.m.

Boat and dock owners who wish to participate for awards should display phone numbers prominently for judges to see.

In the event of inclement weather (high winds, rain, thunder), the event will be canceled.

Little Sand Lake

Little Sand Lake's annual Fourth of July boat parade will set sail at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) beginning at Zorbaz.

Potato Lake

Potato Lake's Fourth of July boat parade will meet at 9 a.m. Sunday at the west end sandbar and set sail to celebrate the holiday.

Lake Belle Taine

Lake Belle Taine's Independence Day boat parade will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday, departing from the West Bay and heading east to Nevis.

Doughnuts and lemonade will be served at Halvorson Park (the beach).

Big Mantrap

A boat parade will be held in celebration of the Fourth of July on Big Mantrap Lake.

Participants are to meet at 10 a.m. Sunday on Hoo Doo Bay.

The route will circle the lake from Hoo Doo Bay through the narrows into the big lake, circle the lake, head back through the narrows into the river and into the west arm, where the parade concludes.

Participants may join the flotilla as it goes by or meet at its origin.

A picnic potluck will be held at the public access at the conclusion. Bring a sandwich, a drink and a dish to share.

Boat decorations and music are "captain's" choice.

A prize will be awarded the best decorated float. Questions may be directed to Judy Hansen at 732-0761. The parade will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

Big Sand Lake

The Big Sand Independence Day boat parade will form at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 4 at the northeast end of Big Sand.

Fishhook Lake, River

The Fishhook Lake and River Association will hold their annual Fourth of July flotilla beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday on the east end of the lake near the Gary and Sharon Rezac-Andersen home. 

Decorate your craft and come and join us.  Parties interested in a picnic afterwards should contact Sharon Rezac-Andersen 732-5230.

Emma, Stocking, Bottle

Emma, Stocking and Bottle lakes annual pontoon and boat parade will set sail at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 4.

Participants are to meet at the dock of Bill and Cathy Jones on Upper Bottle Lake.

Decorate watercraft in a patriotic theme. Those unable to join the parade may decorate a dock for Independence Day.

Two Inlets Lake

The Fourth of July boat parade will meet at the public launch at 1 p.m. Sunday, traveling once around the lake.

Decorations are encouraged but not necessary. The best-decorated watercraft will lead the parade. For safety reasons, motorized watercraft only.

8th, 9th Crow Wing

The 8th and 9th Crow Wing Lake Association will host the annual Fourth of July boat parade at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Line-up is in front of In-We-Go Resort. Registration and parade rules will be available at the marked pontoon.

Lake residents are encouraged to get in the Independence Day spirit and decorate docks for the occasion.

Judging for the parade will be at In-We-Go and Camp Liberty resorts and at the opposite end of the lake.

Rain or storm warnings will cancel the event.

Stony Lake

The Independence Day flotilla parade will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Stony Lake public landing.
