Two Big Mantrap muskies made the news this week: One caught and released, one stolen. Both measured just over 50 inches.

In the case of the stolen muskie, Butch Cole's mounted replica was reportedly taken from the Rustic Inn within the last few months. He's offered a reward on the Craig's List Web site. He caught it six or seven years ago on Big Mantrap and released it after being photographed.

Then there's Ryan Wehrs, a student at the University of Wisconsin whose family has a summer cottage on Big Sand Lake.

Ryan reeled in a 50.5-inch muskie Saturday on opening day of the season.

He wanted to keep the location of his catch a secret, but Big Mantrap Lake is well known for its lunkers. His, too, was released after the photo op.

The secret's out.
