Akeley's 7th annual Answer to Cancer - Audrey's Purple Dream - brought "plungers" and fisherfolk out in number Saturday, raising a record $17,500. Funds are used to assist cancer victims, the event honoring the late Audrey Pidde. The mercury was at about 10 degrees, with a blustery wind coming from the north, when the 23 Purple Plungers dove in.

Rita Holland of Park Rapids was once again the top fundraiser, adding $4,040 to the coffers, the Purple Plunge raising $8,703. The event drew 232 fishermen and women out on the ice.
