Bids on Proctor La-Z-Boy chair top $40,000

Online auction bids for the infamous motorized La-Z-Boy chair from Proctor reached $40,100 Sunday afternoon.

There was a flurry of bids since the lounge chair was put up for sale on eBay Thursday. Proctor police confiscated the chair after its owner, Dennis LeRoy Anderson, 62, hit a parked vehicle while driving the chair Aug. 31. He pleaded guilty Oct. 19 in St. Louis County District Court to DWI in connection with the incident.

Proctor Deputy Police Chief Troy Foucault said the chair is powered by a converted lawnmower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. It has a stereo, cup holders and other custom options, including different power levels.

The price and number of bids jumped from $1,400 on 32 bids late Thursday night to $3,600 on 58 bids as of Friday afternoon to $37,300 on 88 bids Saturday afternoon.

Bidding will cease Tuesday.
