Bette Joann (Stephens) Pachel, 80, of Ponsford, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the Davita Dialysis Center of Park Rapids.

Bette was born July 22, 1933 to Robert and Cora (Weeks) Stephens in Pine Point Township of Becker County. It was in this same area that she attended the Linnell Country School near her home through the eighth grade. She then went on to attend Park Rapids High School from where she graduated with the class of 1951.

As a young woman, Bette attended Normal Teachers Training School. She taught in various country schools from 1952 to 1962; and then did some substitute teaching for a few years.

She was secre-tary/treasurer of St. Theo-dore's Church and a Fire Warden for 20 years.

Bette enjoyed working in the huge garden they put in every year. She loved freezing and canning the vegetables and strawberries from the garden; and sharing them with family and neighbors. She enjoyed cooking meals for the family; especially, on Sundays. Bette loved spending time with her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren, and having relatives and friends stop by for a visit.
