Bert was born in Hubbard Aug. 7, 1941 at the family farmhouse to Claude and Opal Hamblin. They moved to the Nevis area in 1946 where they did farming and logging. Bert went to the Nevis public school and he graduated in 1959. He worked at a game farm in Illinois during the 1960s where he met Paul Harvey and showed him how to hunt and use a shotgun.

He came back home and drove for Great Plains Gas Company and that's how he met Theresa. They got married and had a son, JayD. They moved to Grand Junction, Colo. where they had a daughter, Maridee and another son, Billy. Bert worked for Pabco in Fruita, Colo. for 10 years. He then moved back to Minnesota and went to work for Thermotech for 15 years in Hopkins. He had enough of the Twin Cities area and decided to stay at home in Nevis and he went to work for RDO in Park Rapids, for another five years before retiring.

Bert loved to hunt elk and deer, ride horses, fish and go four wheeling and picnicking. He enjoyed watching westerns, football games, and the news. He especially loved his grandkids and traveling.
