Bemidji truck driver dies in crash with Amtrak train

A Bemidji semitruck driver died in a collision with an Amtrak train on Friday afternoon.

Donald Ray Hedlund Sr., 57, was driving a 2011 Kenworth flatbed semitractor trailer in Fawn Lake Township in Todd County around 2:30 p.m. when he failed to stop at a train crossing at 317th Ave. and Red Rock Road, according to a report by the St. Cloud Times. Road conditions were not a major factor in the crash. 

Hedlund was pronounced dead at the scene. Two Amtrak passenters were reported to have been taken to Lakewood Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. Several other passengers reportedly had minor injuries and were not hospitalized.
