Bemidji man accused of dragging woman with car
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

A Bemidji man on Monday appeared in Beltrami County Court for an assault charge after allegedly running over a woman's arm and dragging her down a driveway with his car.

Jeremy Mitchell Rudnick, 26, is charged with one count of felony third-degree assault after an altercation on Aug. 19. According to court documents, Rudnick knew he had struck a female with his car before fleeing the scene.

Beltrami County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of domestic assault at approximately 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 on Bemidji Road NE. Upon arrival deputies observed evidence of trauma on a female's arms, back and legs, according to a statement of probable cause.

The victim told law enforcement she and Rudnick had a verbal argument and she demanded Rudnick leave the premises. As Rudnick was vacating, she followed him to his Subaru Legacy to get some baby clothes that were in the vehicle, court documents said.

The complaint states as the victim was in the process of retrieving the clothes through the back passenger door, Rudnick "gunned" the car backward, drove for approximately 20 feet and then sped forward resulting in the victim being dragged another 28 to 30 feet.

The victim's arm was run over after she had broken free of the car chassis, the complaint said. A witness told law enforcement his observations of the incident, which corroborates the victim's version of what happened.

The victim was transported to the emergency room, where it was determined she did not suffer any broken bones after being run over with the vehicle. She did suffered significant abrasions.

Rudnick was apprehended on Bemidji Ave. near Amos Way NE after fleeing the scene.

Rudnick has a criminal history including misdemeanor assault and drug possession charges.

A third-degree assault charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Conditional bail for Rudnick was set at $25,000. Rudnick posted a non-cash bond Tuesday. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 2.
