Belfiori, Lohmeier top Panthers' list of all-conference swimmers

Park Rapids' Nick Belfiori and Zach Lohmeier capped off their senior seasons by winning titles at last Friday's Mid-State Conference boys swimming and diving meet at Detroit Lakes.

Belfiori won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.26 while Lohmeier took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.77 to earn all-conference honors.

Also earning all-conference honors for the Panthers was the 200 freestyle relay team of Sam Goebel, Belfiori, Josh Johnson and Zach Eystad with a winning time of 1:36.86.

Those three efforts helped the Panthers claim runner-up honors with 426 points. Detroit Lakes set four conference records and won nine events to claim the conference title with 489 points. Perham took third with 331 points.

Quillan Oak broke the conference record in the 200 individual medley (2:02.73) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.83) and joined Brandon Olson, Travis King and Carter Krengel on the 400 freestyle relay team that set a conference record with a 3:32.65. Jon Melgaard broke his conference record in diving with 506 points.

The Panthers had eight runner-up efforts. That group, which earned all-conference honorable mention honors, featured Kevin Merfeld, Ryan McBrady, Goebel and Eystad in the 200 medley relay (1:51.58); Johnson in the 200 freestyle (1:57.18) and 500 freestyle (5:27.02); Goebel in the 200 individual medley (2:19.42) and 100 freestyle (52.59); Merfeld in the 100 backstroke (1:05.51); McBrady in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.53); and Johnson, Merfeld, McBrady and Belfiori in the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.92).

Also earning all-conference honorable mention honors by placing third was McBrady in the 200 individual medley (2:19.97).

The Panthers will prepare for the Section 3A meet, which will be held Feb. 25-26 at Morris.
