Beekeeping class to be offered in Laporte Jan. 29-30
"The Art of Beekeeping" is an introductory workshop to the fascinating world of beekeeping.
Whether you wish to create a sustainable future in bees or prefer being a hobby beekeeper this two-day workshop will address bee basics, apiary equipment, spring, summer and fall bee care, winter preparation, splitting the colony, introducing a new queen, honey extracting and other bee products.
The workshop will be held on Jan. 29-30 at the Fire Hall in Laporte (near the water tower). The program runs from 6-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Lunch will be available to attending participants. Participants are asked to purchase their own lunch.
The program is sponsored by the Hubbard County University of Minnesota Extension and Hubbard County Master Gardeners.
Conducting the workshop will be University of Minnesota Dakota County Master Gardener, JoAnne Sabin, from Eagan. As a beekeeper and educator on honeybees, she has presented beekeeping workshops to various organizations around the state.
