Becker County crime and accidents, April 9-11
The following items were taken from reports at the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Department:
Friday, April 9
-At 10:32 a.m. an out-of-control grassfire was reported in the Wildflower Golf Course area, the 19000 block of County Road 20. Firefighters from Detroit Lakes, Audubon and Lake Park spent about three hours on the scene. No injuries were reported, but about 150 acres burned.
-At 12:26 p.m. an out-of-control grassfire was reported in the vicinity of Highway 10 and 495th Street. Frazee firefighters assisted Perham firefighters and were on the scene for about an hour.
-At 1:27 p.m. the DNR Forestry unit based in Park Rapids requested assistance from the Becker County Sheriff's Department with suspected grassfire arson in the Pine Point area.
-At 3:12 p.m. a bicyclist was reportedly hit by a vehicle in the Burger King driveway. A St. Mary's EMS crew was on the scene for about 10 minutes.
-At 4:47 p.m. a rural Frazee man reported that a dead beaver, an empty whiskey bottle and empty beer cans had been left at the end of his driveway on the 16000 block of 330th Ave. He said a dead fox had been left there a few weeks ago.
-At 7:48 p.m. a Lake Park woman reported the theft of a gas can and sprayer from her garage and coins from inside the house.
-At 8:13 p.m. a grassfire was reported near a building on the 2800 block of County Road 129 in Ponsford. Carsonville firefighters were on the scene about five minutes.
-At 9:11 p.m. a Callaway man reported a grassfire on the edge of a field near County Road 34 in West Sugar Bush Township. White Earth firefighters were on the scene for about 40 minutes.
Saturday, April 10
-At 11:42 a.m. an out-of-control grassfire was reported on the 24000 block of Sandy Beach Drive in Lakeview Township. Firefighters from the DNR and Detroit Lakes were on the scene for about 30 minutes.
-At 12:39 p.m. an out-of-control grassfire was reported on the 34000 block of County Road 120 in Erie Township. Firefighters from Frazee and Detroit Lakes were on the scene for about 90 minutes.
-At 1:02 p.m. a Lake Park man reported a cabin break-in in Cormorant Township. Among items taken were patio furniture and a grill.
-At 1:50 p.m. a cabin burglary was reported on the 25000 block of Brill Avenue in Osage Township. It occurred sometime over the past few months. Taken were a stereo, speakers and cash.
-At 4:48 p.m. medical help was requested after a vehicle slipped off a jack and fell onto a person on the 26000 block of Beaver Trail, White Earth. A MeritCare LifeFlight helicopter landed on the Callaway ball field and the victim was taken to a hospital in Fargo.
-At 5:17 p.m. medical help was requested after a rural Waubun youngster speared his leg while spear fishing. One tine of the spear hit the leg near a tendon. St. Mary's EMS and tribal police responded.
-At 8:25 p.m. it was reported that a rural Detroit Lakes man was burning two large brush piles on the 25000 block of East Cozy Cove Road, in violation of a burning ban.
-At 9:05 p.m. several large fires, perhaps in cornfields, were reported west of County Road 7 on County Road 12 in Walworth Township. Lake Park firefighters were on the scene for about 25 minutes.
Sunday, April 11
-At 3:41 a.m. a Detroit Lakes woman reported the theft of her daughter's car, a tan Buick, from a driveway on the 16000 block of Highland Drive.
-At 10:24 a.m. a woman reported the theft of a Dell computer from a vehicle parked overnight on the 1000 block of First Street in Lake Park.
-At 12:44 p.m. a Ponsford woman reported the theft of a camera from a car in Pine Point.
-At 3:30 p.m. a Waubun woman reported her son had been assaulted at the Elbow Lake Community Center.
-At 4:02 p.m. a grassfire was reported near County Road 124, near the new projects in Pine Point. Firefighters from White Earth and Carsonville were on the scene for about 30 minutes.
-At 4:38 p.m. an Ogema woman reported a neighbor in the Strawberry Lake projects had damaged a car window and the side of the house with a BB gun.
-At 5:36 p.m. a Moorhead man reported the theft of a two-wheeled tool trailer from the 11000 block of County Road 11 in Lake Eunice Township sometime over the past few months. A number of tools and equipment were inside.
