Becker breaks scoring record with 46 points
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Red Lake used wins over Nevis to stay atop the Northland Conference boys basketball standings.
Chris Duff became W-H-A’s all-time leading scorer after pouring in 35 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in leading the Wolves to a 70-61 win over Nevis on Feb. 7. Duff now has 1,631 career points as W-H-A overcame an early 23-10 deficit for the win.
Gavin Becker led the Tigers with 26 points while Austin Becker (11) and Jordan Feder (10) also hit double figures.
Gavin Becker broke the Tigers’ single-game scoring record with 46 points in a 94-82 loss at Red Lake on Feb. 10. The old record of 42 points was shared by Salum Rajabu, Nolan Toft and Taylor Chase.
Griffin Chase added 15 points and seven rebounds while Courtland Chase had 7 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Becker chipped in six rebounds and four assists while Courtland Chase and Gavin Becker had three assists each in this game that was tied at 41-41 at the half.
“This was a very up-tempo game with both teams having leads throughout,” said Nevis head coach Scott Kramer. “I thought we did a great job against their pressure by scoring 82 points, but we had some breakdown and costly turnovers down the stretch that really prevented us from getting the victory.”
W-H-A leads the conference with an 11-1 record while Red Lake is tied with Cass Lake for second place at 11-2. Nevis fell to 5-7 in conference play.
