Bail reduction denied in domestic case

Milo Tyson Moorman

A district court judge refused to free a Park Rapids man jailed for beating his mother in a domestic incident last month, even though the suspect's mother asked for that release.

The court had previously lifted a "no contact" order between Milo T. Moorman, 31, and his mother, but Judge Paul Rasmussen Monday refused to lower Moorman's bond.

Moorman admitted to drinking that night at his birthday party, then losing control in a downtown residential area.

"She's broken her arm," public defender Jennifer Nelson told the court of a recent accident the mother had. "He wants to get out to assist her."

Moorman's mother, who is not being named, nodded in agreement. She appeared in court with Moorman's grandmother.

Rasmussen was unmoved. He set a Feb. 6 omnibus hearing date and denied any modification of Moorman's bail. Moorman is charged with felony domestic assault.

Bond was previously set $30,000 unconditional and $15,000 with numerous conditions.
