Authorities identify man found in Otter Tail River; foul play suspected
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. - Authorities here have identified the person found dead in the Otter Tail River on Friday night as 33-year-old Scott Roger Burris and believe that foul play is involved, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
Burris, who was last seen on May 22 in Fergus Falls, was reported missing on May 24.
His body was found by recreational swimmers and tubers in the river west of the Orwell Dam on Friday night around 7:30. After being recovered by sheriff's personnel, his body was transported to Lake Region Hospital and then to the medical examiner's office in Anoka for an autopsy.
Although positive identification has not been completed, the release said that preliminary information such as clothing, gender and physical descriptors were enough to identify Burris.
His vehicle was left abandoned on May 22 in a rural area north of Elizabeth, roughly 15 miles from the part of the river where his body was discovered, according to the release.
Foul play is suspected, and an investigation into Burris' death is ongoing.
