Art Leap offers driving tour of area artists’ studios Sept. 28-29
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council (PRLAAC) will sponsor Art Leap 2013 Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29.
Art Leap is an “open studio event” featuring artists’ studios and culturally rich destinations in the Park Rapids area. For the eighth year, art lovers can use a map to find their way to area artists’ and artisans’ studios, workshops and other featured locations.
One highlight this fall will be the first Minneapolis Institute of Arts’ Minnesota Artist Exhibition Program (MAEP) at the Nemeth Art Center.
For the first time, the MAEP is taking the annual show on the road and it is coming to Park Rapids. This satellite show, a collection of paintings by Allen Brewer in response to the Gabor and Edith Nemeth Study Collection, will be on display during Art Leap.
There also will be familiar studio names to visit, as well as several new sites where visitors will have opportunities to meet mature artists/artisans who have been practicing their individual skills and talents in their chosen fields for decades.
Live musical performances will add to the experience. Eric Bervig will sing and play classic rock at Moose Creek/Moose Creek Village in Downtown Park Rapids, and Lori Goulet Reich will return to sing and play folk, country, blues and traditional music at Paul Albright’s Sculpture Studio, rural Akeley. Smoky Hills Art is hosting the band, Unpolished, and six guest artists.
All Art Leap studios and events are free and open to the public.
Maps are available at Blank Canvas Gallery in Park Rapids, the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and other locations or can be downloaded at www.prlaac.org.
Art Leap 2013 is sponsored by the Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council and is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
