Arson suspected in rural Callaway fire
Arson is believed to be the cause of a fire near Callaway that damaged two buildings — a pole barn-type building that was being used as a shop and a nearby garage.
Nobody was hurt in the blaze, which was reported about 6:20 a.m. Saturday, according to Callaway Fire Chief Keith Heinlein.
The shop was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and the fire spread to the garage, he said. There was a fair amount of property lost in the fire, as there was equipment and/or vehicles in both buildings, he said.
Callaway firefighters were on site for about three hours, and Detroit Lakes firefighters assisted for about an hour.
The scene of the fire was 23545 Broadway Ave., located about 9 miles east of Callaway near Rice Lake.
Arson charges were expected to be filed shortly, a spokesman for the Becker County Sheriff’s Office said late Monday afternoon. No names have yet been released.
