Armory Square to be site of home, garden show
By Jean Ruzicka
Armory Square in downtown Park Rapids will herald the arrival of spring this weekend with a Flower and Garden Home Show.
Temperatures are expected to climb to seasonal levels and thoughts will be turning to gardens and the great outdoors (at last!) as well as home improvement projects.
The show, like the season itself, is a renaissance.
Organizer Alan Zemek had heard that many years ago there was an annual spring show, attracting considerable interest every year. The closing of the armory in 1992 created a void for shows of this “nature.”
“We decided to bring this spring event back because as much as we love our ice fishing and snowmobiles, spring is a real cause for celebration in Park Rapids,” Zemek said. “People are ready to shake off the winter blahs and get outside in the sun again. (Especially this year!)”
At this time of year, folks are thinking about new garden projects, he said, including everything from simple potted flowers to planting new trees and shrubs, landscape projects, new decorating and even major home improvement and shoreline restoration projects.
Local nurseries, landscapers, home improvement builders, decorators and artists will be represented “under one roof.”
“They are excited to see this event returning to Park Rapids to celebrate our own homegrown expertise and showcase special talents,” he said of the participating businesses and organizations.
Admission is free and open to the general public. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28.
