Ancestry Detectives 201 to be offered at library
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

Have you been curious about your ancestors?  Who you are and how you got to this place are questions that lead one to search out their past.

A unique, free Legacy workshop, Ancestry Detectives 201, is being offered at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Park Rapids Area Library

There is a beginning (101) workshop, taught previously in Park Rapids, and an advanced (201) workshop, now being offered via the Kitchigami Regional Library System.

The beginning class, AD101, covered the general principles of genealogy research. The class brings the focus to library edition as the best source to begin since documentation of primary sources is readily available online.

The final goal of this class is for each participant find at least one item of new information before leaving the class.

"Having these resources available to library users is a wonderful asset for beginners in exploring their family genealogy and learning how to locate and process the information they find," said Rosemary Susens, instructor for the workshops.

The advanced class, AD201, assumes that participants have done the basic research work of AD101.

This class covers more difficult search challenges such as name changes, immigration records, military records, women ancestors and county materials.   More resources will be shared that will continue to aid participants in their research.

It is recommended that those who register for the classes have a basic knowledge of computer use. For those needing specific assistance on how to access the library Internet services, there is a 30-minute workshop prior to the class start time.

Registration is required as space is limited. To register, call the Park Rapids Area Library at 732-4966.   Upon registration, participants should inform library staff if the computer orientation session prior to the class is needed.

Participants may bring their own laptop if they have one. The classes are free as part of the Legacy Program.
