Local chef Amy Thielen has been nominated for two 2014 James Beard Awards for her television show and cookbook.

Thielen’s television show, “Heartland Table,” is in its second season on Food Network and continues to receive great reviews. “Heartland Table” was nominated for a James Beard Award for Television Show in Studio or Fixed Location.

Her latest episode airs at 9:30 a.m. central time today (Saturday), March 29 on the Food Network. It’s called “On the Ice.”

Here’s the description: “On the menu after the Walker, Minn., Eelpout Festival: Monkfish Almondine, Chestnut-Wild Rice Pilaf, Cast-Iron Curried Carrots and Vintage Toffee Bars.”

Other recent episodes include “Heart of the Fire,” where Thielen gathers around her wood stove to make Fried Chicken and Gravy, Whipped Potatoes and Swiss Chard with Honey-roasted Garlic and Indoor Buttercup S’mores or “Hot Horseradish,” featuring Beef Stew with Red Wine, Mushrooms, and Horseradish Cream, Roasted Shrimp Wraps with Homemade Cocktail Sauce, and a sprawling Bloody Mary bar.

Her episode, “Say Cheese” is a celebration of Midwestern cheese and includes Crispy Cheese Curd Risotto Cakes served with a side of Cherry Tomato-Arugula Salad, Best-Ever Cheese Soup and Stovetop Mac and Cheese with Bacon.

The first season is also available on iTunes where episodes can be downloaded.

Her cookbook, “The New Midwestern Table: 200 Heartland Recipes,” published by Clarkson Potter, also received a James Beard nomination for a Book Award in American Cooking.
