Allman keys Tigers' win over Menahga

Mandy Allman scored 24 of her career-high 37 points in the second half in leading the Nevis girls basketball team to a 73-60 win over Menahga Tuesday night at the Tiger Arena.

Menahga held a 31-30 lead at the half before the Tigers opened the second half with a 16-4 run. Allman scored twice off rebounds and hit two jumpers while Becca Gunkel, Betsy Hjelseth and Maggie Lindow contributed a basket each. Kendra Skoog and Leana Bruer hit jumpers for Menahga, which trailed 46-35 with 11:29 to play.

The Braves used two free throws by Kati Neisess, a layup off a steal by Tarah Cleveland, a 3-pointer by Bruer, two more free throws by Neisess and a basket off a rebound by Amelia Pho to close the margin to 54-47 with 6:08 to play. Allman's jumper and layups by Emilee Edelman and Allman kept Nevis in front.

Nevis regained control with a 16-7 run. A jumper by Allman, two jump shots by Karly Olson, layups by Paige Walters and Riley Hanson, and five free throws by Allman pushed the lead to 70-54 with 1:19 left. Katie Miller hit a 3-pointer for Menahga during that stretch.

Neisess' two baskets and a jumper by Pho capped off the scoring for Menahga while Allman hit three more free throws for the Tigers down the stretch.

Cleveland (10), Neisess (8) and Miller (7) combined for 25 points to give Menahga the lead at the half. Allman led the Tigers with 13 points.

Neisess finished with 18 points, Cleveland scored 13 and Miller had 10 to lead Menahga, which fell to 6-4 on the season.

The win lifted the Tigers to 5-5 on the season.

New York Mills defeats Menahga

Pho's 12 points and Neisess' seven assists, seven rebounds and four steals led Menahga in a 65-50 Park Region Conference loss at New York Mills on Jan. 9.

Hannah Rutten had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead New York Mills.
