Charges filed against family friend in kidnapping, murder of 5-year-old

Albert Karl Schultz, 89, of Park Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Albert was born Aug. 30, 1924 in Holyoke, Mass. the son of Albert and Liffie Schultz. He was raised and educated in the Wolf Lake and Frazee areas.

Albert was united in marriage to Audrey Warmbold June 6, 1951 in Menahga.

He worked for Noeske Lumber and Peterson-Biddick raising turkeys. After retirement Albert enjoyed raising his two big gardens at his home outside of Hubbard. Albert enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, bingo and talking about the good ole days but most of all he enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Albert moved into the Park Villa Apartments in 2009 when his wife became ill so he could be close to her.

He is survived by his daughter, Brinda Fix of Park Rapids; three special grandchildren, Amanda (Paul) Smith of Akeley, Faith Fix of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Kyle Fix of Fargo, N.D.; and two precious great-grandchildren, Samantha and Haven Smith of Akeley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; and siblings, Oscar, Ferdinand, Erma, Ed, Walter and Chester.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wed. Jan. 29 at Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
