Albert 'Al' Poole

Albert "Al" E. Poole, 71, of rural Park Rapids - Nevis, area died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at his home.

Albert Earl Poole was born April 26, 1938 at Osage the son of Loren Curtis and Erma Bertha (Schultz) Poole. He grew up at Osage, where he attended elementary school, and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1957.

He was united in marriage to Louise Ann Tholkes Nov. 14, 1959 in Minneapolis. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1960 and served until 1963, when he was discharged as an E5.

He and Louise lived in the Minneapolis area for 16 years and the past 38 years they have lived near Park Rapids. Al worked as a tool and die machinist for three years, he opened and owned the first NAPA Auto Parts store in Menahga for three years, and he owned his own logging business for 10 years.

He also worked as a truck driver for five years. He never fully retired, he kept himself busy working at resorts, and as a fishing guide, and doing farm work. He was always known as a hard worker.

Al loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He enjoyed woodworking, making hand made custom knives and leather-work. He always cherished time with his family.

He was a member of the Shell Masonic Lodge 184 of Park Rapids, where he had served as master, and he received his 25-year pin.

He is survived by his wife, Louise A. Poole of Nevis; his children, Kelly Poole (his fiancé Beth Engels) of Nevis, Scott (Teresa) Poole of Nevis, Tammie (Eric) Ruther of Park Rapids, Jodi Poole (fiancé - Shane Faerber) of Andover, John (Shauna) Fitzloff of Duluth; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Andresen of Nevis and Delores (George) Kicken of Ainsworth, Neb.; brother, Curtis (Roberta) Poole, of Robbinsdale; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.

Visitation: was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29 at the Cease Funeral Home of Park Rapids and for 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Funeral Service: were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids.

Honorary casket bearers: the Poole Hunting Party, Curt Poole, Dickie Moen, Mick Finn, Kelly Poole, Scott Poole, John Fitzloff, Eric Ruther, Robbie Poole, Adam Poole, Thomas Ruther, Loren Poole, Will Engels, Todd Fitzloff, and Nick Poole.

Active casket bearers: Eric Ruther, John Fitzloff, Adam Poole, Thomas Ruther, Loren Poole, Nick Poole, and Todd Fitzloff.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery at Osage.

Military honors were provided by the Star of the North Marine Corps League Honor Guard Team. Taps were played by Raymond Vaadeland.

A luncheon will be held at the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post 212 Hall following the services.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
