Akeley’s 2013 financial audit report presented
By Anna Erickson
The Akeley City Council heard the 2013 audit report from accountant Judy Moravec at last week’s monthly meeting.
“The city is in a good financial position,” she said. “We recommend 30-35 percent of funds on hand and the city complies with that.”
The city had a cash fund balance of $252,142 for 2013. The total net assets for 2013 were $337,316.
Moravec had the typical recommendations for the city in regard to possibly having more cross training of employees to allow more segregation of duties. This is a common struggle for small towns with just a handful of employees.
In other business, the council:
n Heard that the East Hubbard County Fire District is looking into purchasing a new fire truck. It will be discussed more at the next meeting.
Councilmember Bobbie Emery said she will continue to attend the fire district meetings and report to the council.
n Heard from liquor store manager Lacey Hitchcock that the cooler broke and there was also a leak in the basement. Both situations were resolved.
n The council also discussed fixing signs for the city’s campground on the highway. This would need to be approved by the Department of Transportation.
City clerk Sebrina Hegg also proposed some promotional ideas for the campground such as a Facebook page and possible drawings at the park for campers.
