Akeley Paul Bunyan Days set for this weekend
Akeley’s 66th annual event celebrating the legendary logger, Paul Bunyan, will be held June 27-29 with fun and frolic for all ages.
Paul Bunyan Days kicks off with a fish fry Friday evening on Paul’s Patio followed by a dance for youth, with prizes awarded.
Paul Albright will have a woodcarving exhibition starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
Saturday, there will be games and activities for kids throughout the day, including a tractor pull, a money pit, a fishing contest, turtle and crayfish races and inflatables to bounce on. A cake walk and pie social are also part of Saturday’s activities and a horseshoe and bean bag tournament will be at the VFW.
A car show and dance will engage adult audiences Saturday.
Six bands will perform throughout the weekend.
Sunday begins with a worship service on Paul’s Patio. A children’s parade and grand parade will travel down Broadway followed by a classic ice cream and pie social Sunday afternoon.
Paul Bunyan Days buttons, available at local businesses for $2, offer a chance to win prizes, including a 42-inch flat screen TV, a set of chairs by Akeley artisan Donn Sorenson and a cribbage board, created by Ernie Moore.
