Akeley approves road improvements in city
Akeley's streets will soon see upgrades, the council approving a $23,120 quote from Beard Excavating, Walker, this week for grading and gravel.
The work to be completed and amounts include Hillside, with the road to be reshaped, back slopes cleaned and 80 yards of gravel brought in, $1,735. (370 linear feet by 24 linear feet by 2 inches thick)
Chicago Avenue will be graded, ditches will be cleaned and 100 yards of gravel hauled in, $2,560. (520 linear feet by 24 linear feet by 2 inches thick)
The alley between Hulet and Chicago will be graded and 40 yards of gravel will be leveled, $820.
Work on Third Street west of Highway 64 will include tearing out the old culvert and installing a replacement, cleaning the ditch, shaping the road via grader, cleaning the back slope and hauling in 60 yards of gravel, $2,365. (320 linear feet by 18 linear feet by 2 inches thick)
Third Street east of Highway 64 will be graded and 50 yards of gravel hauled in, $1,105. (300 linear feet by 22 linear feet by 2 inches thick)
Second Street east of Highway 64 will see road grading and excavating the ditch with 50 yards of gravel, $1,325. (300 linear feet by 24 linear feet by 2 inches thick)
Work on Second Street east of Pleasant will include a culvert with aprons, cutting the ditch with the 'Cat, hauling away excess ditch dirt, grading and shaping, cleaning back slopes, digging in culvert and cleaning out the ditch and hauling in 280 yards of gravel and 200 pounds of grass seed, $8,080. (800 linear feet by 24 linear feet by 4 inches thick)
Franklin Avenue will be reshaped via the grader and 260 yards of gravel brought in, $3,970. (860 linear feet)
The alley behind the Senior Citizen Center/City Hall will be graded and 60 yards of gravel distributed, $1,230. (270 linear feet).
In other action, the council:
n Approved a $775 quote for upgrades at the city beach public restrooms.
n Reported liquor store earnings of $2,796 in April, $12, 722 year to date.
n Approved a $600 contract with James Johnson for use of the wastewater irrigation acreage, which is a hayfield.
The amount is expected to be re-negotiated at the end of the year.
n Approved sewer line cleaning for $700.
