Aitkin man killed in Kittson County head-on crash

An Aitkin, Minn., man was killed and two others injured in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon on an icy highway in Kittson County.

Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as Steven Wink, 54, a passenger in a vehicle driven by Benjamin Wink, 25, Warroad, Minn.

According to the police report, the Wink vehicle was eastbound on Minnesota Highway 11 at 2:19 p.m. when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle operated by Mark Engen, 59, Warroad. Road conditions were icy at the time, according to police.

Benjamin Wink and another passenger, Luke Wink, 23, Warroad, suffered serious injuries, police said. A condition report was not available for Engen. No additional information on the injuries was immediately available.

The state patrol, which continues to investigate the accident, was assisted at the scene by the Kittson County Sheriff’s Department.
