FARGO - A 7-year-old boy struck by a pickup truck near his home Thursday night died Friday.
Witnesses told police Thursday that Michael Fetzer ran in front of a Ford F-150 driven by a 63-year-old man in the 500 block of Santa Cruz Drive around 5:30 p.m.
The boy was transported to Essentia Health and eventually airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Fetzer's parents plan to donate his organs.
The accident happened after Fetzer's last day of second grade.
WDAY-TV reported that a memorial fund has been set up for the Fetzer family. Donations will be accepted at any metro-area Wells Fargo bank.
He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
The driver of the truck has not been arrested or cited for any reason.
"The driver was cooperative," said Sgt. Mike Bernier on Thursday.
Bernier said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident. It was still unknown if speed contributed to the accident. Police are still investigating the incident and have been working to reconstruct the scene.
Bernier said charges could be brought against the driver pending completion of the investigation.
