7-foot man gives Fargo police fits during call about unresponsive woman
FARGO - Police say they had their hands full with a 7-foot, 330-pound man who refused to let firefighters help his fiancée as she lay unresponsive on a barroom floor early today.
Officers were called at 12:28 a.m. about a diabetic female at Cactus Jack's Saloon at 3402 Interstate Blvd. S.
They arrived to find the man towering over his 34-year-old fiancée with one foot on each side of her, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.
Police ordered the man out of the way and tried to physically move him when he refused. After several attempts, the man became violent and started fighting with police, striking one officer in the face and elbowing another in the head, Lykken said.
Officers tackled the man to arrest him, and he continued to resist until they threatened to use a Taser on him, Lykken said.
Quennon Lafayette Echols, 37, of West Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of assault on a peace officer and preventing arrest and was taken to the Cass County Jail.
Echols had been drinking, Lykken said.
