4-H clubs anticipate annual Hubbard County Fair
4-H members are ready for the annual Hubbard County Fair next week, with textile, fashion and food pre-judging completed Wednesday this week.
Area 4-Hers got practice speaking in front of a group and interviewing with judges. Some demonstrated how to make cookies or put together a scrapbook page. Others showed off handmade clothing.
This year is the 117th annual fair, put on by the Shell Prairie Ag Association. It will run from July 4-8 at the fairgrounds in Park Rapids. The midway will be set up on the Fourth of July holiday for some activities, however, the 4-H and open class exhibits won't be set up until Thursday, July 5.
Thursday night at 7 p.m. is the talent show with a free will offering. Call 252-1048 to enter the talent show.
Friday is Seniors Day with live music and lunch at the pavilion from noon to 2 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.
Friday night's grandstand performance is local favorite "Rock Bottom," performing at 7 p.m.
Saturday's main events include the out of field tractor pull at 1 p.m. followed by the kiddie tractor pull in front of the old schoolhouse at 3:30 p.m. The modified tractor and pickup truck pull is at 6 p.m. For information call 573-3705, 255-1604 or 732-5296.
In the past the demolition derby has been a big draw. This year the demo derby is at 1 p.m. Sunday. For information call 218-820-6334 or 255-1604.
The fair also has a carnival and 4-H exhibits. Try your hand at creating a Mr. Potato Head. The 4-H exhibit hall will be home to chickens, bunnies, horses, pigs, sheep, goats and cattle throughout the week.
An exhibition dog show is at 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. A giant Twister challenge is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
And don't forget the classic fair food. Stop on over this July for cheese curds, ice cream and other delicacies.
