2 rescued after ATV plunges through ice in Crow Wing County
Two men were rescued after an all-terrain vehicle went through the ice Monday evening on Upper Whitefish Lake in Crow Wing County.
The men were rescued about 150 yards from shore and were treated by North Ambulance personnel at the scene, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.
First responders were notified at 5:25 p.m.
The men were able to leave in their vehicle after the rescue.
Sheriff Todd Dahl said traveling on ice is dangerous and those traveling on ice, especially during non-daylight hours, should inform someone when they will be home.
He also said those venturing out should wear appropriate cold weather gear and carry a cellular telephone with them. With the extraordinarily warm weather, ice conditions can be unpredictable, Dahl said.
Assisting at the scene was the Pequot, Crosslake and Breezy Point police along with Ideal Township and Crosslake firefighters.
