16-year-old Becker County boy charged with assault for hitting hockey foe over the head with his stick
A Becker County boy has been charged with felony second-degree assault for allegedly hitting another boy over the head with a hockey stick during a pickup game in Cloquet.
Dominic Louis Butcher, 16, essentially pleaded guilty Jan. 12.
According to court records: On Jan. 1, he was living with a foster family in Cloquet and was playing hockey with three other boys, also in foster care, when the allegedly assault took place.
Tempers rose during the game, and he allegedly hit the boy so hard that it broke the hockey stick and left a large gash on the victim's head that required medical treatment.
A detention hearing was held Thursday in Becker County Juvenile Court before District Judge Lisa Borgen.
She ordered that Butcher remain held at the Moorhead detention center, with the option of moving him to shelter care at the staff's discretion.
