The 38th annual Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers hosted a huge crowd thanks to perfect weather last weekend. Organizers estimated 5,000 people visited the nostalgic look at history, said Rodney Rhen.  Above, tractor rides ferried visitors throughout the grounds north of Itasca State Park. This rig was operated by the Headwaters Horsemen Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys. At right, Larry Brittain of Blackduck hammers hot metal into a leaf design at the foundry. Below, Percherons Laverne and Shirley were a bit frisky, but pulled a wagon throughout the parking lot, getting visitors to and from their vehicles. Live music entertained throughout the weekend. Thousands of ears of sweet corn fed guests. Kids competed in a tractor pull and the daily tractor parade was a highlight. Hundreds more campers stayed at the park overnight or through the weekend, Rhen said.
