Christian Bible Services will be offered Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. July 17 and 24 at the Court Apartments Community Room, 300 Court Ave., Park Rapids.

There is no charge for the non-denominational service. Everyone is welcome.


The Friends of the Park Rapids Area Library will hold their two-day summer book sale at the library on Thursday, July 18, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At this sale, children’s and youth books along with romance novels will sell for 10 cents. On Friday, all books in the 10 cent room will be one dollar per box, and all remaining newer marked books will be half-price.

As always, the sale includes a wide variety of inexpensively-priced novels, non-fiction works, videos, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and maps.

The library basement is accessible to all.

The Park Rapids Downtown Business Association invites all to celebrate summer at 2nd Street Stage events Thursday evenings through Aug. 22.

“Saint Anyway” will entertain at 2nd Street Stage from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18.

This “stomp-grass” trio, comprised of Tony Petersen, Jamie Kallestad and Dane Levinski, is originally from the northland region. The band honed their chops in the tightly knit (and lately renowned) indie music incubator of Duluth, but is frequently touring farther from home.

Park Rapids Antique Tractor & Engine Club members will bring a few antique tractors to the celebration July 18.


The Mantrap Valley Conservation Club is having a fish fry supper from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 19 at the clubhouse, located 1.5 miles east of Emmaville on County Road 24.

Meal includes fish, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, roll, dessert and beverage.

A freewill donation will be accepted. The donation will be used towards sponsored projects and renovations.

A Monkey Mind Pirates Family Yoga Party will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19 at Century School.

The program, presented by Z Puppets Rosenschnaz of Minneapolis, is created for children ages 2 and up, including families, and has been called “the world’s only puppet, rock, yoga adventure for families in search of calm”.

Get the whole family moving with this mix of puppets, music, and yoga fun. Help Captain Fitz navigate the stormy seas of stress and tame the unruly Monkey Mind Pirates. Join the Quest for Calm with catchy, original songs, simple yoga poses and playful approach to mindfulness. Turn your family’s “arrghs” into “Oms” with this award-winning musical performance.

Z Puppets Rosenschnoz delights children and adults with feats of imagination, mixing hand-crafted puppetry and quirky comedy with live music.

Z Puppets artists Shari Aronson and Chris Griffith have earned many awards, including support from the Jim Henson Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Puppeteers of America and the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Based in Minneapolis, Z Puppets tour their family-friendly comedies across the country. Z artists have an extensive background teaching classes, workshops and residencies for students of all ages.

Summer’s hot. Let us do the cooking for a finger-lickin’ feast and fundraiser to benefit St.

Joseph’s Area Health Services Hospice.

Now in its 26th year, St. Joseph’s Hospice chicken dinner will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 19 at the Park Rapids American Legion Club.

On the menu is a full chicken dinner with all of the fixin’s plus the famous brownie sundae dessert bar.

The public is welcome to join the Weston A. Price Nourishing Traditions potluck gathering at 5 p.m. Friday, July 19 at the Evergreen Church west of Park Rapids. 

Bring a nourishing dish to share, including something simple like vegetables or fruit.  Consider making a new recipe from the Nourishing Traditions cookbook.  The whole family is welcome.

The Green Valley Fire benefit will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at the Menahga Elementary parking lot and gym.

Bring the whole family to enjoy food, music and games. All funds raised will go to the Green Valley Fire Relief Fund.

The event is designed to raise money for those who lost their homes and belongings in the Green Valley Fire. Many Menahga groups and surrounding communities are involved in planning this event.

The organizers are seeking silent auction items. If you or your organization would like to donate an item, please drop it off between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at either the Menahga School District office or with Kari Weise at Northway Insurance in Park Rapids.

The Park Rapids Friendly Squares will host a square dance at the Eagles Club on Saturday, July 20 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The caller will be Tom Allen and Donna Stone will cue round dances between tips. There will be mainstream dancing with occasional plus tips. There will be finger food available after the dance furnished by the club members.

All square dancers and spectators are welcome.

Ruby’s Pantry Food distribution will be held Saturday, July 20 at Assumption of our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church with the food distribution following at 10:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church.  The cost is $15 per share.  Bring your own baskets and boxes for food.Volunteers are also needed and much appreciated. 


The annual Masonic Lodge pancake breakfast promoting Bikes for Books is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 21 at the Park Rapids American Legion.

Tickets are available at the door or from any Mason.


Free Region 2 Arts Council grant writing workshops will be offered Tuesday, July 23 at the Coldwell Banker community room.

Grant information for organizations, schools and units of government will be presented from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and grant info for individuals from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The workshops will familiarize potential applicants with the application process, what projects are eligible, how to develop a project budget and other tips for R2AC grants. 

R2AC grants support arts activity, arts materials and supplies, mentoring experiences for artists, and more.  Eligible applicants must reside in or the organization must be located in Hubbard, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Lake of the Woods, and Beltrami counties.

The FQ chapter of PEO will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25 at the home of Liz Smith.  

RoJean Cummins will be the co-host. The program will be given by Nancy Neal.


The Hubbard County Historical Museum will present “The Minnesota Fur Trade” at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 29 in the lower level of the “new” courthouse, which is handicap accessible.

Trinity Lutheran Church of Laporte will serve its annual chicken dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7.

No reservations are needed. A freewill offering will be received. Proceeds go to local, state and national charities.
