Upcoming events July 5-11


An All Veterans Memorial benefit meal will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 5 at the Park Rapids American Legion.

Diners will have a choice of Hot dogs, brats or burgers served with potato salad and coleslaw along with beverage and bars.

All proceeds benefit the All Veterans building fund.

Menahga’s Midsummer Celebration will be held Friday through Sunday, July 5-7, hosted by Menahga Civic and Commerce.

The classic summer festival includes a carnival, Miss Menahga pageant, water ski show, arts and crafts festival, firemen’s water fights and a grand parade, with fireworks lighting the sky over Spirit Lake.

Friday’s events include rides and carnival fun under the water tower.

The Miss Menahga and Little Miss pageants will begin at 7 p.m. at the high school gym.

The Music Dr. will provide tunes at the VFW from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

St. Urho’s 5 and 10K walk/runs will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Area artists and crafters will display their works on Main from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The carnival opens at 10 a.m. and kids’ events begin at 10:30 a.m. at the football field.

The Midsummer Grand Parade begins at 7 p.m.

The Heather and Thistle Bagpipe Band will perform at the lake after the parade.

Entertainment and a beer garden will be open from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Audio Throttle will entertain at the VFW until 12:30 a.m.

Fireworks will light the sky at dusk.

Sunday, the Lions will serve a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. A non-denominational church service begins at 9:30 a.m. at Spirit Lake.

The Bald Eagle Water Ski Show will be performed from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Spirit Lake.

The raffle drawing begins at 3 p.m. and a Rockin’ ’60s dance will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the VFW.

The Marjama Singers will perform in concert at 6 p.m. at Assembly of God.


A support group meeting for celiac disease will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 8 at Wadena Alliance Church,

1428 S. Jefferson St. in Wadena.

The monthly, free informational meeting is being held to help people with celiac disease learn more about the disease - what to eat, how to cook and bake using gluten-free flours and ingredients. Informational materials will be available along with some gluten-free recipes.

Each month members have a potluck supper. Along with a gluten-free dish to share, bring about eight copies of the recipe to share with the group.

The Hubbard County Historical Society will host a Brown Bag Lunch at noon Thursday, July 11.

Russ Brown, deltiologist (post card collector) will share old postcards of the Hubbard County area.

The museum is located at 301 Court Ave.

n Thursday, July 18, Ren Holland, local author of “The Early Resorts of Minnesota,” will be leading a “Guess Which Resort” session.

n Thursday, July 25, Rod Nordberg will present a silent movie in the lower level of the museum. Free popcorn!
