"Country Business" magazine, a 25,000-circulation trade publication for the retail gift and home decor industry, has named Summerhill Farm in Park Rapids as one of the finalists in the magazine's 2009 Retailer of the Year award.

Summerhill Farm is one of two retailers to receive the finalist designation; the other finalist is a store in Oregon. The first-place winner of the award is a store in New Hampshire.

Summerhill Farm is a retail destination consisting of eight specialty shops and a restaurant situated in a scenic outdoor location with a pond, brick pathways, flowerbeds and garden art.

The business was chosen for the award based on the business savvy of the owners, Eileen and Jeff Reish, and the unique retail environment and design of the shops, according to Susan Wagner, editor of "Country Business."

"Eileen and Jeff Reish are outstanding retailers," Wagner said. "They are constantly reviewing their business in terms of quality merchandise, profitability, customer service, marketing and more. They have an extraordinary retail business that is certainly worthy of this award."

Summerhill Farm was chosen from more than 25 entries.

As a Retailer of the Year finalist, Summerhill Farm received an engraved trophy and will be profiled in a future issue of the magazine.

Summerhill Farm will have a few "new and exciting things going on here this year," Eileen Reish reports.

Kelly Sanquist will be opening a branch - or stem - of her business, Kelly's Cottage Gardens at Summerhill this summer. The shop will feature her signature floral creations, garden antiques and handmade furniture.

The Treehouse, featuring women's clothing and accessories, will open Friday, April 17.

All shops and the Sun Porch restaurant will be open for the season Friday, May 8.
